PROS – TRADITIONAL MARKETING
- Tangible Materials:
In traditional marketing, we can touch the products, check the quality, and if we like them, we can buy them.
- Higher Trust:
In traditional marketing, if we manage to build a place in our customers’ minds even once, they will prefer coming to us instead of buying things online. They will also do mouth publicity, which will help promote our brand, and many more people will get connected to us.
- More personal:
In this, we have face-to-face interaction and receive guidance that feels personal and it helps to make stronger relationships with customers.
- Effective for Certain Age Group:
Since not everyone is active online- including elderly people or those living in areas with poor network – traditional marketing is beneficial for them.
PROS – DIGITAL MARKETING
- Cost-effective Marketing:
We can use digital marketing which is much more cost-effective and we can advertise on multiple digital platforms.
- World-wide Reach:
With the help of Digital Marketing we can show our products/ services to our worldwide audience by investing a small budget and by having our presence on the internet we can secure an international position too.
- Specific Targeting:
With the help of digital marketing, we can choose our exact target audience based on their age, gender, location, areas of interests etc.
- Measurable Outcomes/ Achievements:
With the help of Digital Marketing, we can measure each and every step accordingly.
This will help us to understand what is working, what is not working & what needs improvement.
CONS – TRADITIONAL MARKETING
- High Costs:
Traditional marketing is very expensive as compared to digital marketing because it requires a lot of investment of money as we will run ads of our products and services on big platforms like TV, newspaper, radio, magazines etc.
- Limited Reach:
In traditional marketing, we can reach a certain number of people only because when we will run our ads on TV, newspaper etc, we will not be able to filter our audience by age, gender. And we will not be able to find those who are willing to buy our products or want to have the service.
- Environmental Impact:
In traditional marketing, we get pamphlets printed and put up banners, which uses a lot of paper. And since paper comes from trees, we are indirectly harming the environment. On the other hand, if we use digital marketing, everything stays online and there’s no need to use paper for printing.
- Slower Results:
As compared to digital marketing, in traditional marketing we run our ads on TV and newspaper. So, we can’t find out who watched our ad completely on TV or who read our article fully in the newspaper. In this, we cannot measure results accurately.
CONS – DIGITAL MARKETING
- Very High Competition:
Digital Marketing has become very popular and now, from the smallest brands to the biggest ones, everyone is following the rules of Digital Marketing to promote their products & services and to become well- known around the world.
- Changing Algorithms and Trends:
Nowadays, social media app algorithms and market trends keep changing. For example, something that works today might not work tomorrow. So, If we want our products and services to succeed in the market, we need to adapt according to these changes.
- Compulsory to Create Regular Content:
It is very important to create content and post it regularly in digital marketing. If we stop posting content in between, we might lose the customers we gained through digital marketing. And once we lose them, it becomes very difficult to gain them back. That’s why we should create content regularly.
- Slowly Getting followers and likes:
If we are completely new to the field of digital marketing and we want to grow our likes and followers organically without spending money, then we need to work with a lot of patience. If we don’t stay patient, we won’t be successful and might leave the work halfway. But if we stay patient and work with the right mindset and strategy, then in a short time, we can build a strong and organic image on online platforms, and people will start recognizing us easily.
Which is Better: Traditional or Digital Marketing?
Traditional marketing is better for those people who don’t want to change at all – the old-fashioned people who prefer to stick to the old ways and Digital Marketing is good, or better, for those who belong to the current generation– people who are passionate about technology and are digitally aware.
Digital marketing is cost-effective as compared to traditional marketing. In it, we can target a specific audience and show our promotions only to them. We can also measure the results – what’s working and what’s not. It is very fast and flexible, allowing us to make changes according to our needs. We can showcase our creativity, and if we present it well, it leads to higher engagement. This also helps in increasing our global reach.
Traditional marketing is useful for reaching a local audience, especially in small or limited areas. In this, we can show our products to people face-to-face, and if they like them, they will obviously buy. Brand credibility also plays an important role – if a brand has been around for a long time, there’s no need to introduce it; people already know and recognize it. This becomes an advantage. Also, in traditional marketing, there is less competition for attention compared to the crowded digital space.
